Dr. Marc Malek

Owner/Certified Fear Free Veterinarian Certified Veterinary Acupuncturist Therapeutic Laser Clinician Level III Reiki Practitioner

Known as Dr. Doolittle by many clients, Dr. Malek lives his dream everyday helping the animals he loves and the people who love them. He graduated from U.C. Davis with a B.S. in Environmental Toxicology in 1986 and in 1990 from the School of Veterinary Medicine. Immediately after graduating Dr. M began practicing with a mixed animal practice (large and small animals) in the Marysville/Wheatland area. When the owner of the practices sold the large animal component of the practices Dr. M moved to Sacramento and began a new challenge as the managing veterinarian for a fast paced small animal clinic in 1993. The opportunity to purchase Foothill Farms Veterinary hospital trumped a potential surgical residency in 1994.

Over the last 5 years Dr. M has dedicated much of his continuing education to Integrative practice. Therapeutic laser treatment has been a staple at FFVH since 2011 due to Dr. Malek’s early adoption of this rapid physical medicine healing therapy. He received his Certified Veterinary Acupuncturist (large and small animal) certification in April 2014 from Colorado Veterinary Medicine Association’s OneHealth SIM Acupuncture course . He and many of the staff have been learning and practicing Animal Reiki since 2012 and he received his level III Animal Reiki instructor certification in June of 2014.

Dr. Dustin Noack

Certified Fear Free Veterinarian

Dr. Noack moved to Northern California to attend UC Davis, where he studied and completed his Bachelors of Science Degree in Animal Science in 2009. After taking a year off of school to work, he gained entry into UC Davis’ prestigious Veterinary Medicine program and graduated with Honors in 2014. While many opportunities were explored, he ultimately felt an instant connection with FFVH and has been serving our clientele since his very first day in practice.

Dr. Noack has a keen interest in client education, dentistry, preventative medicine, urgent care, challenging internal medicine cases and chronic allergies of your furry family members.

A self admitted chihuahua fan, Dr. Noack lives with 3 chihuahuas and a black lab (all rescues) whom he loves very much. When he is not at work, he enjoys spoiling his fur-family rotten, hanging out with Dr. Daryani (wife) and going to the gym. He’s also been known to be a rather large football fan.

Dr. Anjali Daryani

Certified Fear Free Veterinarian Certified Pet Loss and Grief Recovery Specialist

Dr. Daryani was born in the United Kingdom and grew up traveling around the world before moving to the United States. After completing her bachelor of science, she graduated from the UC Davis School Of Veterinary Medicine. Dr. D joined the Foothill Farms team in 2015 and her interests are in emergency medicine, surgery, internal medicine and oncology Dr. D is also certified Pet Loss and Grief Recovery Specialist and strives to help clients through the loss of their furry family member.

When she is not practicing medicine at FFVH she volunteers her surgical skills at local animal shelters and mentors UCDavis Veterinary Students in their communication skills. She enjoys riding her horses, trying new food, and spending time with her dogs Ebony (Labrador), Sage (Chihuahua), Mr. Monkey (Chihuahua) and Chispa (Chihuahua).

Dr. Megan Hirano

Certified Fear Free Veterinarian

Dr. Hirano grew up in Sacramento and completed her bachelor and DVM degrees at the University of California Davis. After graduation, she practiced in a small animal hospital in North Carolina for 2 years, and then spent 3 years as an associate Veterinarian in a large hospital in Oakland before moving back home to Sacramento. She loves preventative and neonatal medicine which are a complimentary asset to our hospital and team!
​Dr. Hirano has been riding horses since she was six years old and competes in show jumping. One of her horses is a rescue that was found tied to a tree by animal control in NC!
She shares her home with 3 dogs and 4 cats that she and her husband rescued from various rescue organizations.

Dr. Holly Abney

Certified Fear Free Veterinarian

Dr. Holly Abney is a veterinarian who combines her passions of working with animals and helping the families that love them. She graduated from the UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine, and has spent the last four years working in a general practice veterinary hospital that served as the emergency room for the surrounding area. Dr. Abney’s interests include surgery, internal medicine, feline medicine, and hospice care. She is dedicated and compassionate and will ensure that your furry family member receives the best care.

Shelley Malek CMA, AS, CRP

Co-Owner Level III Reiki Practitioner

Shelley Malek began her career in human medicine working as a medical assistant for Sutter Medical Foundation and UC Davis medical centers. Several years of assisting Physicians, Surgeons and Nurse Practitioners cleared the path to higher education. Shelley soon found herself teaching and directing medical programs, developing curriculum and delivering the principles of healing modalities to both students and teachers at colleges specializing in medical education.
Not long after meeting Dr. Malek in 2011, Shelley was invited to become the Hospital Director at Foothill Farms Veterinary Hospital. With her experience in program administration and human resources Shelley has provided the needed oversight and vision for this growing practice. Realizing the potential benefits of combining traditional Western Medicine with Holistic methodologies; she began her energy healing education and along with Dr. Malek has become a level III Certified Human and Animal Reiki Practitioner and instructor.

Dr. Carney

Fear Free Certified Veterinarian

Dr. Carney grew up in Arkansas and has lived in a variety of places before settling down in California. She last lived in Switzerland where she worked with large cats prior to attending the UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine. She has spent the last six years working in general practice, enjoying customizing individualized treatment plans for her patients and clients. Her areas of interest include preventative care, cardiology, dermatology, and hospice care. When she is not at work, Dr. Carney enjoys spending time with her family and friends. Her “children” include two dogs, one cat, and a young human!

Kelli Mayhew, DVM, DACVS

Surgery Specialist

Dr. Kelli Mayhew has been a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Surgeons for the last 10 years. She obtained her veterinary degree from the prestigious School of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania where she graduated magna cum laude in 2004. She was selected to stay on at the University of Pennsylvania for a highly competitive rotating internship as well as a three-year small animal surgical residency. After completion of her residency, she joined a specialty practice in the Pacific Northwest before moving to Northern California in 2010. Dr. Mayhew joined the faculty at the No.1 rated veterinary school, the UC Davis Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital. During this time Dr. Mayhew supervised veterinary students and specialty surgical residents in the areas of orthopedics, soft tissue surgery and minimally invasive interventions.

Dr. Mayhew is now offering her surgical services on a mobile basis to the greater Sacramento area and is ready to provide state-of-the-art surgical solutions to pets in the convenience of their local veterinary hospital.

BRIAN MACKIE, DVM, DACVIM

Cardiology Specialist

Dr. MacKie, DVM received his Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from Washington State University in 2005. Following a one-year rotating internship in small animal medicine and surgery, he completed his residency training in Cardiology at the University of Wisconsin – Madison. During his time there, Dr. MacKie helped to implement the use of the Amplatz Canine Ductal Occluder for non-invasive treatment of congenital heart disease and assisted in prospective research on pulmonary hypertension and cardiac biomarkers. His clinical interests include echocardiography and electrocardiography (ECG), pulmonary hypertension in dogs, syncope (fainting) associated with heart disease and arrhythmia, congenital heart disease, and congestive heart failure (CHF). Dr. MacKie is a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine (Cardiology).

Lindl Bylicki, DVM, DACVR

Ultrasound/Radiology Specialist

Britany Lindl Bylicki is originally from Livermore, CA where most of her family still resides. She received a BS from UC Santa Barbara and graduated with high honors in Biopsychology in 2005. She returned to Northern California to attend The School of Veterinary Medicine at UC Davis and graduated in 2010. After that, it was back to Southern California for a rotating small animal internship at the Veterinary Medical and Surgical Group in Ventura, CA. After a year at VMSG, she returned to UC Davis for a four-year residency in diagnostic imaging. Britany became a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Radiologist in 2014.

She is an author of several publications in the areas of carotid body tumors, the canine dorsal tracheal membrane, chondro-osseous respiratory epithelial adenomatoid hamartomas, and CT pneumocolonography. She serves as a peer reviewer for the Journal of the American Veterinary Medical Association and the Journal of Veterinary Research.

She currently lives in West Sacramento with her husband and their Border Collie mix. They enjoy hiking and backpacking, snowboarding, and finding new beer to try. Britany is an active member of the River City Rowing Club’s Open Women’s team and travels the country as a competitive rower.

Alyssa Shelby, DVM

Dr. Alyssa Shelby was born and raised in central Missouri in a rural community. She received her BS in Animal Sciences in May of 2013 from the University of Missouri. She attended the College of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Missouri and graduated in May 2017 with her DVM. She was very active in veterinary school, serving as Class President, President and co-founder of the Theriogenology Club (study of reproductive medicine). Her passion is comparative reproductive medicine (large and small animals). In her free time, she likes to ride horses, work with cattle, workout, read, and explore her new home state of California. She currently lives with her husband, who is an MD, and their fur children (tortoiseshell cat and corgi). Her goal is to one day become board certified in comparative Theriogenology. She is very excited to join the Kokopelli team and looks forward to helping grow the practice’s large animal services!
